Proof that "joke" levels can be as good as serious ones.įirst off, I absolutely did not expect for the level to suddenly dump Mario into Football Hell, which has gone from a giant cave of fire with loads of American Footballs to a wartorn wasteland where the American and British definitions war for supremacy at some point over the course of the last 57 episodes. DEDEDANCEFLOOR! This tier-sized baby spans from the landing pad aaaall the way to the foot of the Tower of Infinity!Ģ3 rd: I Always Knew I Wasn't Made For Sports Great job, and this looks quite nice to play, too!Ĭome one, come all! Welcome, all ya MaGLXers, to Cameo City's one and only.
The cow's pretty simple, but I'm still just incredibly wowed by the inclusion of this level. The whole experience is a touch long, but Demo has so much health that it's fine. The control explanation is a bit dodgy, but it works for what it is, still, and there's safety to test the scheme for a few seconds, too. What a great start.Ģ2nd - Demo's Magical Chase: And this is a Shmup in the SMBX engine! I'm super impressed with this one. The fact there are CUTSCENES is excellent, and the ending is delightful, with the boss being pretty good in general, especially in terms of writing. While it is true that the level's design is the weakest part, and each section is arguably a touch long, it's still good design, overall, with nothing truly wrong, and plenty of real nice touches. The levels today were amazing! And they're both from familar faces, so let's begin, without hesitation.Ģ3rd - I Always Knew I Wasn't Made for Sports: The narrative here and screenplay is just fantastic, and the level looks the part, too. It's probably the Fliprus failing to put out fire level, though the Monty Mole & Supply Co. I just realized I forgot my favorite from last tier. No idea what was going on with the music at the end there though! I'm pretty sure the music for that segment is just default smbx music, so no idea what could've caused the clipping, it certainly didn't come up in testing. Looking forward to seeing the rest, everyone's been doing great! I didn't expect to get anywhere near this high but I'm honoured that I did. Especially the text to speech stuff was fun to work with, the palmtree voice makes me laugh every time, hopefully I didn't balloon the file size too much though, haha! The hidden scene, the lore scene and the final confrontation were all a ton of fun to make, and I'm glad they came across well. There's perhaps a bit too much slow back and forth though, I could see that becoming annoying if you die.įor me though what I like to do the most is to just try put on a show, and the most fun came in putting together the assets and especially the cutscenes.
I wanted it to be tighter and to slowly get more focus on momentum as you progress. I'm happier with the halftime tower segment overall though. I like a lot of the ideas but there isn't a lot of escalation. I've always felt that the level design itself isn't super great, I feel especially it doesn't have a great flow, especially in the first half. Had to do a lot of research into terminology though, especially for American Football, hopefully I didn't mess things up too much, haha. But when I got 'football' as one of the prompts the idea clicked pretty quickly, and I had a ton of fun with it. The universe did all it could to coincide these two events, even if it isn't the best of days for my fellow Englishmen.įor the record, not really super knowledgeable on sports at all. Feels surreal seeing this after so long, but the wait was worth it!Īnd, uh, the fact that it came today of all days is just madness really. Man, hard to believe after all this time it's finally here.
